This news is being reproduces here as it is from Vidarbha News. Read original post here (Vidarbha Cotton crisis worsen…)

(Farmer Shri Gajanan Ghatekar's suicide note)

The non-receipt of declared  relief aid to vidarbha cotton even after lapse of four month and sudden crash in cotton prices due on going stringent restriction on cotton export ,three more vidarbha farmers suicides reported today  include one woman farmer ,they are identified as

1.Gajanan Thorat  of Village Garm Mahsal a in Karanja taluka of Washim
2.Kamalabai chavan  of Village Wadner in Kelapur of Yavatmal
3.Gajanan Ghotekar  of Village Kothoda in Kelapur  of  Yavatmal,

informed farm activist Kishore Tiwari   of Vidarbha Jan Andolan Samiti VJAS,

Maharashtra Govt. declared relief aid to cotton farmers of vidarbha in last December 2011 to the tune Rs.2000 crore but till today not single paisa has been  paid to distressed farmers more over suddenly union Govt. Of India on 4th March   impose the blanket ban on cotton export then imposing srigent conditions of cotton export has severely affected the raw  cotton rates  was traded above @Rs.4200/- quintal but after the  export ban brought down @Rs.3400 quintal ,this is reason  to give trigger to restarting farm suicide spiral in vidarbha, Tiwari added.

Deceased farmer Shri Gajanan Ghatekar’s suicide note:

“My tractor was old, it cost me a lot for repairing. My loan account is repayments are delayed, all gold ornaments are sold off. I’m bankrupt, my crop loan is delayed. I’m helpless and very upset so committing suicide. I couldn’t get my daughter married. Please save my family. Don’t vote Congress ad NCP and don’t let your situation to become like me, they will ruin our nation.”

“That was last request made by Gajanan Ghotekar ,cotton farmer of  village kothoda in kelapur taluka of yavatmal district who committed suicide on 19th April night to mounting debt of bank taken for the tractor and non-payment of installments, police has recovered this suicide note from Ghotekar’s  family members  and verifying it’s  hand writing but in last five years lot of suicides notes of cotton farmers who committed suicides alleging state driven wrong policies are recovered but administration failed to take corrective action” Tiwari added.

In India 7 million cotton farmers families cultivating cotton in 12 million hectors from states of  Maharashtra ,Gujrat,AP,MP,Rajthan and Punjab who are in debt trap due to cotton crop failure this year and Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar has been demanding UPA Govt. to remove all barriers of export in Agri. Products  which is being supported by Maharashtra Chief Minister Prathiraj Chavan, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy but corrupt cartel of commerce ministry has managed to continue the anti-farmer policies which is being reflected in farmers suicides of vidarbha ,our all protest and requisitions are shown dustbin ,this is mouch more humiliating” Tiwari informed.

“All earlier GOM meeting have been high-jacked and Babus involved commerce Ministry and Cotton Advisory Board CAB has been giving fabricated data of national cotton consumption and production  to justify the restrictions imposed for cotton export which are not in line with ground reality .We are till confused to understand the justification to protect finger counting people by pushing more than 10 million agrarian in deep economical crisis ” Tiwari added.

When Indian domestic demand is just 20 million bales as against national production of 33 million bales there is no reason put restrictions when interest of domestic textile mills are fully protected. The decision to ban Indian cotton export is another example rampant corruption going on in UPA Govt. there is big names involved in the sudden export ban will expose the all misdeeds of commerce ministry hence for the first time farmers suicide issue has given focus of wrong policies of state ,we will see that the truth is prevailed”  Tiwari added.

Note: Why am I taking efforts to reproduce this post so openly? Reason: My farther also sowed 3 acres of cotton. In that first he was cheated by seed company due to which the production was meager, after that government banned export of cotton without even asking any objections from farmers. Then middlemen took disadvantage and made the prices fall from Rs.4500/quintol to Rs.3500/quintol causing more unrest. Finally government declared package of Rs.2000 per acre for deceased farmers, but that needed Rs.200 per hectare for registering the claim. And what can be expected from this incompetent and corrupt government we haven’t received a single paisa as of now.

Jay Bharat!

काँग्रेस व राष्ट्रवादी काँग्रेसला मतदान करू नका, ते देश बरबाद करतील

Posted by Sandeep Shelke on 22nd April 2012

Read in English. (Don’t vote for Congress and NCP, they will ruin our nation).

How FDI in Retail can ruin Bharatiy Farmers

Posted by Sandeep Shelke on 30th December 2011

Source

… In 1970, hog producers received 48 cents of each dollar spent on pork. in 2000 they received only 12 cents. Prices to consumer did not decrease.

… In 1990 ranchers and farmers received 60 cents of the dollar spent on beef, retailers received 32.5 and meat companies 7.5 cents. In 2009 Farmers received 42.5cent (down by 17.5), retailers 49 cents, meat packers 8.5cents. ..

… 4 pints of milk in UK costs 1.45 pounds and farmer receives 40%(58 pence) of it. Causing a loss of 3 pence per 4 pints. Causing small farmers to close there shops. In Bharat farmer receives 75% of consumer spend on a litre of milk. …

… US farmers received direct commodity subsidies of over $167 Bn in 1995-2010. EU paid farmers direct subsidies of $51 Bn in 2010 alone. So why these big retailers are not helping reduce the subsidies to the farmers. …

…. In Mexico 25% of small farmers are off farming now due to big retail and imports under NAFTA. ….

As mentioned in image above in Europe flow of goods from 3.2 million farmers is controlled by 110 buying desks of big retailers catering to 160 million consumers. Today Bharat has more than 600 million (78% 0f  total farmer population)  small and marginal farmers and a huge consumer base of more than a billion. Now imagine what havoc it may create when our small and marginal farmers will have to compete with bigger farmers of developed nation who fetch huge subsidies from their governments.

32 Lakh European farmers received total subsidy of Rs 26,970 Crores i.e. average Rs 8,41,680 per head approx. Now 21 Crore Bharatiy farmers received total subsidy of nearly Rs. 1,54,000 Crores i.e. average Rs 19,494 per head approx. Now if tomorrow these retail giants start importing (using free trade agreement) from foreign farmers since the prices would much lesser with the help of their governments where would Bharatiy farmer go?

How can Bharatiy farmer compete with rival farmers,
– when basic infrastructure is not in place?
– when rival farmers receive subsidies almost triple the yearly turnover of Bharatiy farmers?
– when crop insurance is not in place?

I’m afraid that such uneven and misplaced competition would lead our farmers off their land into labors jobs since they do not have enough capital and supporting government.

On other hand that farmer’s income will be improved argument fails sharply since even after having established big retailers network the USA and EU is consistently increasing the subsidies to the farmers and still their farmers are into losses. What is the guarantee that FDI in multi-brand retail won’t displace Bharatiy farmers? and put pressure on government to increase the subsidies too?

Lastly, lets not blindly copy paste western models. We can definitely learn from them but by looking evenly at all sides and not just one which is shiny.

Jai Bharat!

Looks like first victim of central govt’s onion policy

Posted by Sandeep Shelke on 22nd December 2011

Shri Sahebrao Kekan from Chandawad, Nasik attempted suicide today. He is an onion grower, had onion crop at 10 acres. Due to idiotic export policy by central govt the onion farmer across Maharashtra faced huge losses this year. This year has been an epitome of loss for onion growers.
Looks like the fate of cotton growers awaiting onion growers due to indifferent govt. Vidarbha cotton farmers are committing suicide at rapid rate. And now western Maharashtra onion farmers too are being forced towards suicide through some insane pricing and neo-open market policies. And this world is just playing the role Nero’s guests.

Death Knell into the Coffin of Biggest Enterprises Network

Posted by Sandeep Shelke on 29th November 2011

How government is, at first, planning to render the farmers jobless and then spending exchequer’s money to make them employable labors at industries to be setup?

  1. More thank 2.5 Lakh farmers committed suicide in Bharat since 1995. [Read stats]
  2. Maharashtra is leading the chart by accounting for more than 30% suicide cases.
  3. Through policy of freebies, NREGA, controlled market government has paralyzed the farming community.
  4. On one side our food production is not enough e.g. pulses, cereals while whatever being produced is of less nutritional values.
  5. PM lost his sleep when a person was arrested under the charges of terrorist activity in Australia. But he does not talk about 70-75Crore farming population’s agony. Without fail he says there is 70% excess human resources in farming, on what basis he made this statement? Is he following the designs of making this nature loving, agrarian economy into an urbanized industrial economy which will be dependent on foreign countries for food at the end of the day?
  6. I do not oppose promoting modernization or industries but making policies to exploit one section to serve other isn’t a leader is expected to do.
  7. P. Chidambaram propose to convert land owners into industrial labours by acquiring land, setting up businesses and then employing the land owners as labours. For that he propose to setup 1000 training schools. This all on the suggestions of world bank. Did he bother to go and ask the farmers for that matter? No he did not.
  8. Sole question is why not to promote agriculture to the fullest through farmer friendly policies. If at all you want to setup industry have the land owners as partners, share earning with farmer.
  9. E.G. At my in-laws village there is one farmer family who earn Rs. 1Cr per year from pomegranate orchard of 9 acres. Can Mr. MMS and Mr. PC make sure that he will continue to earn this much after industry setup? Not just that my in-laws earn Rs.10-13 Lakh per year in Sugar cane crop from 6 acres while having the luxury to eat fresh vegetables and freedom from pressure. Will he be able to maintain this lifestyle?
  10. Kautilya has clearly asked to develop rural area through agricultural economic activities. Gandhiji too asked for “Gram Swaraj”. And this Harvard/Cambridge tribe of politicians want rampant urbanization that too on behest of world bank/IMF. A question arises then for whom are the policies? are they for us or the IMF/World bank?
  11. Kautilya has emphasized on Aanvikshiki (Philosophy) at the start of the book. Because he want the King/Leader/Minister to be a person with logical reasoning.
  12. Kautilya repetitively speaks about sustainable development. If food is imported then how can it be sustainable?
  13. Kautilya talks of Association with elders and continuous learning. Our politicians seem to be forgetting the importance of the thoughts proposed by our elders and wise at various times.
  14. Society has to become duty centric by shunning right seeking attitude, since exploitation is not a way of human life, exploitation is barbarism.

जय भारत!
